Giant Pandas

 

Giant Pandas are black and white Chinese bears that are on the verge of extinction (which means the world is running out of Pandas).

Pandas are large and cuddly, have big heads, heavy bodies, rounded ears and short tails. Their real name is da xiong mao which means, bear cat in chinese. Pandas have eyes like cats and only eat bamboo.

This bamboo only diet can be big probem when the bamboo plantations get cut down to make room for people. No bamboo equals - hungry homeless Pandas.

A smidge of good news - in December 2009 a baby panda was spotted cruising about with its mum in a forest, this is the first time a baby has been seen in the wild in China for yonks.

Lets hope some of these cute bears can live happily in forests while their city cousins hang out in zoos.

There are only 1600 pandas left in the world.
